How is a MSI (Maritime Safety Information) broadcast received by an Inmarsat-C SES that is engaged in communications?
How is a MSI (Maritime Safety Information) broadcast received by an Inmarsat-C SES that is engaged in communications?
(C). There is no loss of information since broadcasts of "vital" messages will be repeated.
For some of the EGC (Enhanced Group Call) receivers lack error-less receipt of messages function. So, messages are repeated to ensure that they are received properly.
Two types of MSI communications are repeated: unscheduled messages (distress and severe weather notifications) and scheduled transmissions (warnings and other info).
For more info, see section 9 "REPEAT BROADCASTS OF MSI INFORMATION" of the Inmarsat INTERNATIONAL SAFETYNET HANDBOOK
