What statement is correct regarding the maintenance requirements for A3 ships under GMDSS?

Redundancy of functions of certain equipment and on-board maintenance provided by a person holding a GMDSS Maintainer's license will partially meet this requirement.

The Federal requirements state that ships must have various communication capabilities, and so to comply redundant systems are needed.

A ship operating in sea area A-3 must have the following provisions for maintenance:

Any two of these are required. (listed below)

• Duplication of Equipment.
• Shore Maintenance.
• At Sea Maintenance.

47 CFR 80.1105
(d) On ships engaged on voyages in sea areas A3 and A4, the availability must be ensured by using a combination of at least two of the following methods: duplication of equipment, shore-based maintenance, or at-sea electronic maintenance capability.
