What equipment can be used to receive Maritime Safety Information?
  • Correct Answer
    NAVTEX, EGC receiver or HF SITOR (NBDP).
  • EGC receiver, Inmarsat B or F77 terminal.
  • HF SITOR (NBDP), Inmarsat B or NAVTEX.
  • All of these answers are correct.

What equipment can be used to receive Maritime Safety Information?

(A). NAVTEX, EGC receiver or HF SITOR (NBDP).

NAVTEX works on 518 kHZ to provide ships with direct printing service of meteorological forecasts, warning, urgent marine safety updates, and navigational information.

EGC Receiver, or Enhanced Group Call, is a internal part of the GMDSS. It is used for marine safety information, or MSI, usually outside of NAVTEX coverage area. The type of messages are like those for NAVTEX. EGC communicates with Inmarsat C system to send its messages.

HF SITOR (NBDP) or SImplex Teletype Over Radio sends text messages. It is used on HF bands to send marine info about weather forecasts and meteorological warnings.
