INMARSAT Communications Systems-2

What is the best description for the INMARSAT-C system?

  • It provides slow speed telex and voice service.
  • Correct Answer
It is a store-and-forward system that provides routine and distress communications.
  • It is a real-time telex system.
  • It provides world-wide coverage.

What is the best description for the INMARSAT-C system?

It is a store-and-forward system that provides routine and distress communications.

The INMARSAT-C uses MES (Mobile Earth Stations) and LES (Land Earth Stations) to provide both ways of data transmissions.

For more info, please see Wikipedia's article Inmarsat-C

Also, see communicating using Inmarsat-C from the Inmarsat site.

The INMARSAT mini-M system is a:

  • Marine SONAR system.
  • Marine global satellite system.
  • Marine depth finder.
  • Correct Answer
Satellite system utilizing spot beams to provide for small craft communications.

The INMARSAT mini-M system is a:

Satellite system utilizing spot beams to provide for small craft communications.

Small crafts use INMARSAT mini-M systems for data, fax, and voice transmissions. The antenna is small enough for the smaller boats.

See ManualZZ site for article on Inmarsat Mini-M Technical Specs - Explorer Satellite Communications

For example of a unit, please see Satellite Telecom Catalog for Inmarsat Mini-M and

When INMARSAT-B and INMARSAT-C terminals are compared:

  • Correct Answer
INMARSAT-C antennas are small and omni-directional, while INMARSAT-B antennas are larger and directional.
  • INMARSAT-B antennas are bulkier but omni-directional, while INMARSAT-C antennas are smaller and parabolic, for aiming at the satellite.
  • INMARSAT-B antennas are parabolic and smaller for higher gain, while INMARSAT-C antennas are larger but omni-directional.
  • INMARSAT-C antennas are smaller but omni-directional, while INMARSAT-B antennas are parabolic for lower gain.

When INMARSAT-B and INMARSAT-C terminals are compared:

INMARSAT-C antennas are small and omni-directional, while INMARSAT-B antennas are larger and directional.

The inmarsat-C antennas are relatively small, passive stationary non-parabolic antennas, used for lower-speed data transfers.

The Inmarsat-B antennas use a stationary large dish antenna, with position calibrated to be in line-of-sight of a satellite. This service offers data/fax transmissions as well as voice communications.
