Columbia Amateur Radio Club (CARC) – In-Person License Exam Session

IMPORTANT GATE ARRIVAL NOTE:

Please inform park staff at the entrance gate that you are there for the Amateur Radio Club.

Location, Directions & Time:

The exam session will be held at Sesquicentennial State Park, located at 9564 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29223.

• Start Time: 10:00 AM (Please arrive 10–15 minutes early for check-in).

After entering through the main gate, follow the CARC signage to the designated testing area.

Testing Logistics & Requirements:

We utilize the digital ExamTools platform to administer examinations efficiently and provide immediate results. Please review the following technical and identification requirements:

• Exam Devices Provided: The CARC VE Team supplies pre-configured testing tablets connected to our private testing network. You do not need to bring a laptop or computer.
• Calculators: ExamTools features an integrated digital calculator right on the screen. However, you may bring a standalone basic or scientific calculator if you prefer. All calculator memories must be cleared prior to testing, and programmable calculators, phone calculators, or devices with storage capability are not permitted.
• Prohibited Devices: Personal laptops, phones, smartwatches, smart glasses, and outside tablets must be powered off and stowed away during the exam.
• Identification: Bring one valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, state-issued non-driver ID, or U.S. passport). Candidates under 18 may present a student ID or birth certificate accompanied by a legal guardian with a valid photo ID.
• FCC Registration Number (FRN): An FRN is mandatory prior to testing. Social Security numbers cannot be used on the digital registration forms.
• Preparation: Free practice exams and study resources are available at HamStudy.org and the ARRL Exam Review portal.
• Exam Results (CSCE): Upon passing your exam element, you will sign your paperwork electronically on the tablet. The VE Team will submit your results and email your Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) directly to you for your records.
