Extra upgrade class and exam (Extra ONLY)

Join us in-person for a free TWO-day Extra upgrade cram class with a ham radio exam at the end of Day 2.

The exam is administered by SANDARC's Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (VEC). SANDARC offers in-person and online testing for all FCC Amateur Radio licenses and does not charge for first time license exam, re-test nor license upgrade.

Registration in advance is required for both the class and the exam. Walk-ins are not allowed.

Fees: The class and exam are FREE of charge (no fee). The FCC waives their $35 license application fee for the upgrade. (Note: If you elect to get a bragging rights 2x2 callsign, the application fee may apply.)

We recommend that you prep for the class by spending 6-8 hours before class reviewing the material for the exam.

A good way to prep is with the https://ham.study/ application. Install the low cost application on a phone or tablet, or use it free on-line with your browser.

In either case, you first "Register" on HamStudy with an email address. This creates a free account that keeps track of your progress.

Once you've Registered for your account:

• Login to https://ham.study using your username and password.
• Choose the General exam by clicking on Extra:
• Click on Study Mode:
• Use the drop-down option in the top bar to change from All Questions to just E1
• Click on E1.
• Go through each question in E1, until you've Seen 100% of the questions.
• Go to the next Sub element (E2) when your aptitude is at 85% or more.
• Continue doing this with each sub element.
• Do not skip sub elements. (Although if you get really stuck, skip it for now and return after you have studied the other sub elements.)
• Do not take practice exams until you've Seen 100% of each sub element and your Aptitude is 85% or more in each sub element.
• The bar graph on the right will display your Seen and Aptitude.

To view an explanation of the answer when you're in Study Mode, click on I don't know. I don't know is designed to give you questions more frequently, if you select I don't know instead of getting it incorrect. Don't guess, if you don't know it. If you guess and get it correct, the app will assume you likely know it.
