Exam Session February 28, 2026

The Ole Virginia Hams Amateur Radio Club offers in-person license examination sessions for all amateur radio license classes (Technician through Amateur Extra). To participate in an exam session you will need the following:

1. An FCC Registration Number (FRN). If you do not currently have an FRN, you will need to register at the FCC web site (https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do)
2. Register for an exam session at HamStudy.org.
3. A government-issued photo ID.
4. Those under the age of 18 will need a parent to show a copy of their birth certificate if a government issued photo ID (such as a school ID) is not available. A picture of the birth certificate or a scanned copy is acceptable. We do not retain or submit any of this information.
5. Children under 13 years of age will need a parent to complete the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) when applying for the exam session.
6. If you have a Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) paper form that is not reflected in your FCC ULS record, you must bring the original to the session in order to obtain credit for it.
7. A stand-alone calculator where the exam team can clear the memory. You cannot use the calculator feature on personal electronic devices. The exam fee is $15 per session. If you fail, and wish to retake the exam, a new session will be initiated, and you will need to pay an additional $15. For those under 18 years of age, the fee is $5 per session. Exam fees are payable in person by cash or by electronic payment to a Paypal Pool account. The account information will be provided in an email once you have registered for an exam session.
